He opened his mouth to ask her how long it had been, but the words never came out. It struck him, suddenly, how young she had looked to him before his face was in her hair and any guesses at her age were rendered impossible. She was different than when he had seen her the day before - the look in her eyes when she had first seen him was proof enough of that, but she held herself differently, held him just a little bit differently. He didn't doubt that time had passed for her, but he realized that he had hoped she would look much older. What had happened to him? How long, in her timeline, before he was gone?
